SF’s Huge Fundraising Effort for Colleague and Friend
We are so proud of our staff from both sites, coming together to help friend and colleague, Padraig Regan, raise vital funds for life-changing medical treatment which wasn’t available in Ireland.
A team of almost 30 staff from SF Ireland, battled through strong winds and almost zero visibility to reach the summit of 5 famous peaks in 3 days.
Whilst in the UK a team of seven staff took on the Nuts Challenge, a 7-km race through and over a selection of grueling obstacles, mostly muddy ones!
Many of you will know Padraig as one of the longest standing employees of SF, Ireland. What you may not know is that 4 years ago, Padraig was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (PPMS) which is causing his immune system to attack his body.
In August, Padraig traveled to Mexico for Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) a treatment is not available in Ireland. HSCT is a procedure where his immune system is re-booted, which hopefully will stop his MS. The treatment involves harvesting Padraig’s stem cells, having chemotherapy to wipe his existing immune system and re-transplantation of the new cells.
An incredible total of €27,892 was raised for this life-changing treatment which will hopefully prevent Padraig from being confined to a wheelchair and from this disease progressing further.
Congratulations to everyone who took part in these events and all those who so generously donated to these fundraising efforts.
